Anyone else play Freespace 2 back in the day?

I LOVE that game. I say love, because you can still get it on GoG, and there’s an updated graphics pack to make it very very pretty, and I still play it.

What kind of specs do you need to play it? I spent many many hours on that in high school.

Hell yeah Freespace! This and Homeworld really cemented the idea that space-combat is just incredible, and the plotlines for all of them were real masterworks :)

Oh, not much. I was playing on an i7-4550u laptop with integrated graphics with no issues. Also no issues on my i7-4770k desktop with the gtx580, but you know...
Really, it just brings the graphics resolution and pretty stuff up to snuff, but it’s not really adding a lot of the really hardcore features like light rays, god rays, etc. More higher quality texture mapping, but god it’s pretty. I want Freespace 3....

Yep, one of the nice things Volition did was open source the game (though not the art assets) which means fans have been able to give a consistent stream of engine updates and bug fixes, as well as tweaks to let it run on newer systems: http://scp.indiegames.us/

Not back in the day, but I did play it...after a fashion:
